Research Initiatives
The Patty Brisben Foundation has a commitment to facilitating scientific inquiry into the manner in which companies like Pure Romance are making contributions to the sexual health of women and their partners. To that end, the Foundation has established a strategic partnership with researchers from The Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University. Through this partnership, the Foundation has provided funding that supports a range of studies related to women’s sexual health and the specific ways in which sexual health professionals can intersect with the adult retail industry to be of service to women. Examples of the research projects being conducted through this partnership include:
An assessment of the sexual health problems faced by breast cancer patients and survivors, and the ways in which the adult retail industry can be responsive to these needs through a tailored product line of sexual enhancement products.
An exploration of the sexual health concerns of the 10-15% of women who experience vulvovaginal pain, the types of adult retail venues through which they seek help and information, and the products which may alleviate or prevent pain and discomfort.
Studies related to the sexual functioning of women including problems with sexual arousal, desire and orgasm and the venues through which women seek information about these issues. Preliminary findings suggest that a large percentage of women ask questions about these issues at in-home sex toy parties, and that these parties represent a unique venue for information and enhancement products. International scholars have expressed replicating this study in other countries.
